This project involved designing a field guide that spotlights 222 species of common pollinators in Portugal, from bees and flies to birds and even reptiles. These creatures play a vital role in our ecosystems, supporting over 75% of agricultural crops. Yet, their populations are declining, a reality that makes this guide more urgent than ever.

My challenge was to create a design that not only organizes complex scientific data but also invites curiosity and connection. For each species, the left page presents written descriptions of its key characteristics, while the right page features photographs alongside details about its activity period, size, and distribution, complete with labels for easy identification. This format was intentionally crafted to support fieldwork, allowing users to operate the book with one hand and view all visual references on a single page. The book also includes illustrations and diagrams to explain biological processes and the anatomy of the species group.

This project was a true collaboration with researchers and science communicators from the project PolinizAÇAO. I’m deeply grateful for their trust and for the opportunity to learn alongside them.
